Are candidates tired of applying to adverts?
11th February 2025

Have candidates become application weary/advert hesitant?

We are in a strange market at the moment! A lot of businesses are reluctant to increase headcount whilst others are only hiring for critical roles.  Despite this general hesitation, we are still having a reasonable flow of vacancies being registered and some of our clients are bullish and continuing their recruitment plans at pace. And many candidates who have been waiting patiently for the market to pick up are keen to make the move when the right roles arise.

In a market short of vacancies to match the demand from candidates, we now have a workforce who are fed up of applying for roles and hearing nothing back. Hiring companies are well aware that they can post their own adverts and receive a high volume of applications. But are they equipped to deal with the associated process? Possibly not!  The time it takes to read through the CVs, respond to applications, screen the applicants, organise interviews and deal with all of the associated aggravation (cancellations, no shows, ghosting, counter-offers etc) takes its toll and inevitably leads to the candidate experience being poor. This is both damaging to company reputation and extremely frustrating for both parties.

Quite simply, candidates are telling us that they are growing tired of applying to adverts and not hearing back. And many have stopped applying! Unless you have access to every job board and CV database, plus a network of relevant, local candidates you can present your role to, your vacancy is not covering off the wider market.  So you might think that your advert has done a great job as you received loads of applications, but the reality is that you are probably missing out on a lot of the best candidates.

Volume does not equal quality.
Lots of CVs does not mean good suitability.
Booking lots of interviews does not always result in a perfect match.
Making an offer does not always lead to acceptance.
Accepting an offer does not always lead to a candidate starting!

What if your advert is not optimised to attract the right applicants?
What if the ideal candidate isn’t registered with the job board you have used?
What if you are having to do your day job whilst dealing with the recruitment single-handedly?
What if something goes wrong in the process and you have to start again?
What happens if the ideal candidate is not actively applying for roles online?

This is where we can add significant value to a recruitment process….

Helping you unearth the hidden gems!

Ultimately our job is to take away the stress and unknowns listed above. We leave no stone unturned in our search for the perfect candidates and have the time and resources to attract the best possible applicants for our clients.

What steps do we take?

  • Utilising our existing local network to present your vacancy to suitable candidates who are not actively on the market applying for roles
  • Using our CRM and external CV databases to run specific searches for key skills and experience
  • If advertising is required, we can post your vacancy on the most suitable job boards (multiple)
  • Using our expertise to optimise adverts in order to attract the best possible applications
  • Targeting suitable candidates through LinkedIn
  • Gathering strong candidates through referrals and recommendations
  • Presenting a shortlist of suitable, vetted candidates once our screening process is complete
  • Managing your vacancy from start to finish
  • Ensuring we undertake aftercare to check both parties are happy post-placement

If you feel like your adverts just aren’t bringing in the calibre of applicant or you don’t have the time to effectively manage the recruitment process, please do get in touch with me ([email protected]) or the team and we would be pleased to assist.
