Diary of a Trainee Recruiter: Lessons and Milestones

Embarking on my journey as a trainee at Think, I've gained valuable insights in just a few short weeks. Reflecting on my time in this all-new field, I’ve learnt loads, met an incredible team and kick started my career into Recruitment.

From Candidate to Recruiter. A New Perspective Coming from a candidate’s perspective, I had my blinkers on! They prevented me from fully grasping what transpires behind the recruitment curtain.

One of my first revelations was recognising the significance of a powerful CV. I looked back at my own and felt the urge to give it a complete makeover!

Getting Stuck In. My journey continued as I delved into conversations with people about their careers and aspirations. I began to discern the questions that needed answers to pinpoint the right roles for them. For instance, I encountered individuals who shone when speaking on the phone, exuding engagement, and curiosity. These qualities made them ideal for a variety of customer service, support, or advisory roles, even if they were uncertain about their next career step.

Transition to the Client Side. My next step involved adapting this newfound knowledge to the client's perspective. Being involved in meetings and getting to listen to role descriptions first hand from team leaders and managers. This insight enabled me to gain a deep understanding of the type of candidate who would be the perfect fit for each role. Then it’s finding the perfect fit for candidate and client alike!

The Team. Five months of traveling, the prospect of returning to full-time work felt daunting, but the warm welcome and support I received from the team made all the difference! Excited to keep learning and continue my path to Recruitment consultant!
