What questions should YOU ask the interviewer at the end of a job interview?
26th November 2014

You’ve done the hard bit, secured the interview and answered all the interview questions to the best of your ability.  Now the interviewer says to you “Do you have any questions for us?”  Saying no to this question could undo all that hard work!  So, make sure you prepare some questions that will impress.  This is a great opportunity for you to be able to end your interview on a really positive note demonstrating to the interviewer how seriously you have thought about the role and in choosing the right questions you can prove what a good match you are for the role:

  • What do you think are the most important qualities for someone to excel in this role?

In this question it will help you to understand if you are the right fit for the role but also hopefully will demonstrate that you have the skills required so you can expand on it.

  • What would a typical day in this role be like?

This shows that you have really thought about the role and it will also give you a good insight into the role and whether it is right for you.  By learning more about the role it will give you an insight into what skills are needed for the job thus enabling you to reemphasize your suitability for the job.

  • Why do you like working at this company?

In gaining the interviewers personal experience of the company it gives you a good understanding of the organisation.

  • What are the opportunities for progression?

By asking this question you will get a good understanding if the company promotes from within and development opportunities. You will also be able to demonstrate your commitment and dedication to the company.

  • Can you tell me a bit about the team who I would be working with?

This illustrates your desire to be a part of the team and also allows you to see if it is a team that you would like to be a part of.

  • What are the next steps in the interview process?

By asking this questions you are showing how eager you are to remain in the process.  It also gives you a realistic timeline for the process.

Remember this is still an interview, some of the questions may have already been covered off during the interview so make sure you get to ask at least a couple of questions at the end.  Do not resort to asking about salary and benefits use this opportunity to ‘stand out’ from other interviewees ands show that you have put a lot of time and thought into this process.
